After the death of his wife, the veterinarian Sebastian Brunnen and his daughter Kira move from Berlin to a small Moselle town to try a new beginning there. Barely arrived, he is confronted with a dramatic case: Because Sebastian has been diagnosed with the pathogen of a dangerous disease in a broodmare on the equestrian farm of Katherina Mohr, the responsible medical officer will also take precaution to euthanize the healthy horses of the farm. While the two get closer to each other privately, Sebastian realizes almost too late how lonely and unhappy his daughter is.
Marie runs a bookshop in Torgau with a great deal of idealism. As business is not going well, she has taken a job as a seamstress in a toy factory. The future of this traditional business is not looking good either, as the company has been sold to a large toy group. Although managing director Klaus Sandmann claims to want to continue running the company, it soon transpires that the sly manager actually wants to close the factory. This once again awakens Marie's fighting spirit: together with her colleagues, she forges a cunning plan to save the company.
The relationship nightmare with horror Uschi has thrown the prickly neurotic Roland onto the psycho couch. His long-time friend and roommate Ferdinand is there to hold his hand. They both share a symbiotic dependency: Roland's financial contributions have so far saved the bohemian and his Renate from total bankruptcy, while Ferdinand has always steered his yuppie friend through his mental crises. But then they discover an old common ground that drives a wedge between the friends... The heroes are in terrific form in this wonderful mimosa duel. It's briskly told and has a few surprises in store.
